FSN E-Commerce Ventures, which operates beauty firm Nykaa, registered a net profit of Rs 13.6 crore in the quarter ended June 30, 2024, up 152 percent from Rs 5.4 ecrore recorded in the year-ago period.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Tuesday carried out searches at the premises of a CPI (Maoist) member in Kerala and seized several digital devices, documents, the agency said. The searches were part of a case related to a conspiracy for waging war against the government by the members of proscribed CPI (Maoist), it said.

Odisha’s vigilance department on Tuesday arrested a retired engineer, a day after unearthing disproportionate assets worth crores of rupees from his possession. Mishra, a retired chief engineer of the public works department, was found in possession of disproportionate assets, including 10 high-value flats in Bhubaneswar and Jharsuguda, seven costly plots, 2.55 kg of gold, and 370 grams of diamond. During simultaneous raids conducted at nine locations in Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, and Jharsuguda on Monday, the vigilance has also detected deposits over Rs 2.70 crore, Rs 6 lakh in cash, two luxurious cars, from his possession, vigilance officials said.

Amid relentless protests by doctors’ associations across the country over the rape and murder of a doctor in Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, the Calcutta High Court today ordered that the probe be transferred to Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

The AIIMS Delhi has warned their protesting resident doctors against holding any demonstration on or around the hospital campus stating it was in violation of High Court directions and amounts to contempt of court. The Delhi AIIMS’ Resident Doctors’ Association (RDA) Monday went on an indefinite strike, suspending all elective and non-essential services including OPDs and wards to protest the alleged rape and murder of a trainee doctor at a government hospital in Kolkata.

Amid the controversy over the Hindenburg allegations, the Congress on Tuesday announced that it will hold a nationwide agitation on August 22 demanding SEBI Chief Madhabi Puri Buch’s resignation and a Joint Parliamentary Committee probe into the Adani issue. “The shocking revelations of a nexus between the SEBI and Adani needs a thorough investigation. The money of small investors in the stock market cannot be jeopardised,” Kharge said in a post on X. The announcement was made after Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge held a meeting with all general secretaries, state unit chiefs and AICC state in-charges.

Senior BJP Lok Sabha member Jagdambika Pal will head the joint committee of Parliament set up to examine the contentious Waqf (Amendment) Bill, officials said on Tuesday. The joint panel has 31 members — 21 from the Lok Sabha and 10 from the Rajya Sabha — and will submit its report by the next session.

Five Naxalites, one of them carrying a reward of Rs 5 lakh on his head, were arrested in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district, police said on Tuesday. Schools were shut in several Rajasthan districts on Tuesday as heavy rainfall continued to batter parts of the state where 22 people died in rain-related incidents in two days. A warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall is in place for Tuesday and Wednesday in the Bharatpur, Ajmer, Jaipur and Kota divisions. In some areas of eastern Rajasthan, moderate to heavy rain may occur on Thursday and Friday.

The BJP claimed on Tuesday that the recent rise in the political strength of ‘do ladke’, a reference to Rahul Gandhi and Akhilesh Yadav, has resulted in criminals getting emboldened in Uttar Pradesh. BJP spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi accused the Samajwadi Party of sheltering criminals, and targeted the Yadav-led party over the arrest of two persons allegedly associated with it on the charges of rape and attempt to rape.  The INDIA bloc outperformed the BJP-led NDA in Uttar Pradesh in the recent Lok Sabha polls.
