Many BJP lawmakers to join Cong before Maharashtra polls, claims Maha Congress chief Patole


Maharashtra Congress President Nana Patole on Friday claimed many BJP MLAs will join his party before the state assembly elections. Patole was talking to reporters after the induction of former BJP MP Shishupal Patle into the party. The Congress leader alleged there is a lot of resentment among the allies of the Mahayuti comprising the BJP, Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena and Nationalist Congress Party headed by Ajit Pawar. “Many leaders of the BJP and its allies will join the Congress in the coming days,” Patole said.

ED arrests 4 in Chinese-linked online betting app ‘fraud’ worth Rs 400 crore


Four persons have been arrested in connection with a Rs 400 crore “fraud” online betting and gaming app allegedly linked to some Chinese nationals, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) said on Friday. Arun Sahu, Alok Sahu, Chetan Prakash and Joseph Stalin were taken into custody under the provisions of Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) in the case related to the app named ‘Fiewin’, the federal probe agency said in a statement.

‘Govt has strategically shaken up entire administrative set up’: NC asks EC to suspend transfer of officials


The National Conference today called on the Election Commission of India (ECI) to thoroughly investigate the massive transfers in the police and civil administration, and demanded immediate suspension of the implementation of such orders. National Conference General Secretary Ali Mohammad Sagar said the move seems “clearly intended to undermine” the integrity of the electoral process, which restricts such transfers to prevent the ruling party from gaining an undue administrative advantage over the opposition.

CBI taking over shouldn’t lead to rape-murder case being quietly buried: TMC leader Derek O’Brien


The public outrage over the rape and murder of a woman trainee doctor in Kolkata is understandable but the CBI taking over the case shouldn’t lead to it “being quietly buried”, Trinamool Congress leader Derek O’Brien said on Friday.


“It is hard to conceive of a more bestial, heinous crime than the murder and rape of a young woman that took place in Kolkata. The public outrage is entirely understandable. Thoughts and prayers with her family,” the Rajya Sabha MP said in a post on X.


West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has announced a rally over the incident at 4 pm on Friday, demanding that the CBI should give daily updates on the investigation, and that the probe should be completed before August 17.
